Songs of Peace and Harmony, a concert with Sounds True recording artist Tryshe Dhevney, at the Historic Carr/Rhoads Church House. This poem was read to open the program.
The Humming
Out here
The gusts crash gently
Through treefingers
Making the sound
Of surf on shore
Great inhalations
And releases in loud whisperings
On leaves
In here
the refrigerator hums
Along with the lamps and fans
And then beyond these walls
I hear the muffled murmurs
Of passing cars
And church bells still
After all these years
Counting the passing hours
And out here
In a different place
It is as if the very rocks
Tremble their deep songs
Almost too low and slowly
To perceive
But not quite
If you listen with the soft ears of your body
Meanwhile
Somewhere in the distance
Now
A raven croaks
Her wisdom
And I sing along
I sing it all
Humming in harmony
With creation
And created
And even humming
With a choir of stars
Hidden quietly
Unseen
Behind the daylight sky
